Untitled (Grand Canal with Santa Maria della Salute)
The Library is original to the home. The library is likely were men would meet after a formal dinner to discuss business and politics of the day. Hoyt replaced the original fireplace with the one from his childhood home that he had shipped from his mother’s home in Ohio. The chandelier is original but converted to electricity. The room has two large marble busts (Dante and Venus) that had been donated to the Des Moines Women’s Club. A large portrait of Hoyt Sherman sits above the fireplace mantle. The bookcase contains a rare family photo of the Sherman siblings including Hoyt Sherman, General William Tecumseh Sherman and Ohio Senator John Sherman.
