Thompson’s Bend
“Thompson’s Bend” Painting by G. Gardner Symons
(Also known as “Thompson’s Glen”)
The painting was exhibited at the DMWC in 1918, and was given to the club in 1920 by Mr. G.D. Ellyson, in memory of his wife Alice Ellyson, club president form 1909-1910. The scene is that from in back of a home on Pennsylvania Avenue, Des Moines (at the time of the painting, that of Mr. and Mrs. F.O. Green was a member of the DMWC) looking from the east bank of the Des Moines River.
