The painting was given to the DMWC in 1906 by Mrs. L.E.Harbach, with the information that it was by a former Des Moines artist.

Forgy and his wife lived on High St. and were neighbors of Hoyt and Sara. His wife was a dressmaker and Sara Sherman bought dresses from her.
