“Madonna and Child” attributed to Annibale Carracci not signed

Attributed to Annibale Carracci in letter dated 11.10.1908 (filed in artist’s folder) to Major S.H.M Byers, critic at the Chicago Art Institute, James William Pattison, stated, “There can be no doubt that this is a work of the Carraccis’ or of Annibale himself. The color which is beautiful the manner of laying paint and the general air of the work proclaim this beyond doubt. It is a very valuable picture for illustrating the painting of this period.”
