The painting was purchased for $1,500 by the Women’s Club at the 1904 St. Louis Exposition on the advice of Seymour Thomas, and American artist living in Paris who represented other American artists in Paris at the Exposition.
Restoration of the painting done by Quentin Rankin and Ann Creager was complete in November, 1985.
