Three Des Moines Women’s Club members, Mesdames J. R. West, James H. Windsor and E.R. Clapp, traveled to the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair and purchased our first piece, a bronze statue of Joan of Arc. This was the beginning of the current collection and is now located in the theater lobby.
