Harriet Macy, 38 yearlong art teacher at Des Moines East High School, painted this piece during her travels to the Hawaii where she painted the state capitol grounds. She travelled quite a bit and painted in every stop. She painted this piece before her passing and was selling it through the Iowa Arts Guild for $50. Macy was a member of the Des Moines Women’s Club, student at the Cumming School, and well-known painter in Des Moines. It was donated by Des Moines community member and student of Macy, Carol Hammen.
