Chandelier located in entrance hall.
Brass. Urn-shaped center with 6 arms branching out, heavily filigreed in grape design.
Donated in 1950 by American Farmers’ Mutual Insurance Company. The chandelier hung in the Polk family home, Herndon Hall, at 2000 Grand Avenue, now owned and used as offices by Better Homes and Gardens. Polk County was named for James. J. Polk, early governor of the state of Iowa.
An elaborate brass-colored metal bulbous form outsized six-light chandelier having a crown-like crest of open tubular shapes over a bulbous lid. The lobed body with scrolls in low relief and shields overall. Depending lobed panel with one depending ball. The arms with scroll-work and acanthus leaf. Each of the lobes on the body has a masqueron. 24″ diameter. Probably Continental, late 19th century. Electrified.
