One of the most famous Italian sculptors of the 19th century, Romanelli, was the son of another renowned sculptor, Pasquale Romanelli. By working in his father’s studio and at the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence, his talent brought him even greater fame than his father had enjoyed.

His first official piece, the hand of Lorenzo Bartolini, was gifted to Russian princess Olga Orloff.

Taking over the Romanelli studio in 1887, his exhibitions and high-profile commissions caught the attention of many of the world’s most powerful families and leaders.

Over his 57-year career, he is estimated to have completed over 2,300 works for clients all over the globe.
