Louisa Sherman Pitkin, wife of artist James Sherwood Pitkin (1843-1914) and mother of James Sherman Pitkin (1880-1950) as well as three other sons. She is a distant relative of Major Hoyt Sherman, as both trace their ancestry back to Edmund Sherman (1548–1600s) of Essex, England, whose son, Reverend John Sherman, later settled in Waterbury, Connecticut, right about where Hoyt’s father Charles Robert Sherman grew up.
